Cardinal Spellman High School's Block S Hall of Fame recognizes both Coaches and Graduates who had an important impact on the athletics program. This list is also included on a special display in the Bronze Doors hallway. Each year, at the Block S Sports Awards Dinner, members are inducted into this hall of fame. We are grateful to all who have contributed to Spellman's continued excellence on and off the field. Go Pilots!

Rev. Michael J. Flannery
Athletic Director & Assistant Athletic Director
Among the first priests to serve Cardinal Spellman High School, Rev. Michael Flannery taught the in the classroom and helped shape the school's identity in its formative years.

Jane F. (Lacey) Morris '71
Girls' Basketball, Team Captain, Girls' Varsity Basketball Coach
As a coach, she compiled a 725-218 record during more than forty years at Cardinal Spellman. Her teams have won 20 Division Titles, 5 Archdiocesan Championships, 2 CHSAA State Titles, and the 1999 Federation Title. She was honored by the NYSAAA in 2013 and named Coach of the Year numerous times by the Daily News, New York Post, and the Bronx Times.
William Krywicki
First Athletic Director, Varsity Football Coach, Varsity Baseball Coach, & Physical Education Instructor
During his time at Cardinal Spellman, he helped build the athletic program from the ground up. His work for the athletic program at Cardinal Spellman laid the foundation for every team that followed.

First Girls' Athletic Director, Girls' Varsity Basketball Coach, Girls' Varsity Volleyball Coach
During her time at Cardinal Spellman, she was deeply respected and loved by the athletes who played for her and the student body.

Boys' Assistant Principal & Junior Varsity Coach
Brother Stolz was a warm and generous with his time serving the Cardinal Spellman community. A deeply respected figure, he was beloved by the community and the students he coached.

Brother Gregory Hunt, F.S.C.
Assistant Principal & Assistant Coach
Lovingly known as the "dean of discipline," Brother Hunt was one of Cardinal Spellman's first assistant principals and earned a reputation as being tough. He carried this same discipline into the athletic program, where he was closely involved with the teams.
Terrence J. McCormack '63
Varsity Football Captain, Varsity Basketball Captain, Varsity Track Captain, First Student Body President
Known as "Mr. Spellman" to the Cardinal Spellman community, Terrence McCormack is a part of the first graduating class of Spellman. He was the school's first Varsity quarterback and Student Body President. He combined his athletic and academic talents to earn a scholarship to Iona University.

Salvatore J. Schiazza
Athletic Director, Assistant Varsity Football Coach, Junior Varsity Football Head Coach
Salvatore J. Schiazza succeeded Krywicki and Flannery as Athletic Director, holding the post for years and becoming a familiar, respected figure to generations of Spellman athletes. He also coached on the field, serving as assistant varsity football coach and head junior varsity football coach, while remaining involved in the physical education program.

Matthew L. Genovese M.D.
Dr. Matthew L. Genovese was known as a trusted authority for athletic health at Spellman. He was the person that the coaches and athletes turned to for physical and medical guidance. He attended all Spellman Football games to provide immediate care if needed, but his care and time was shared across all of Spellman's athletic teams.

Few coaches left as deep a mark on Spellman athletics as Fred Calaicone. As head varsity coach of both football and baseball, he won a number of championships and sent players on to professional careers, later going on to coach at Pace University himself.

Steve Donohue '74
Steve Donohue has dedicated his career to keeping athletes at their best, serving an incredible 47 consecutive seasons with the New York Yankees organization, currently as Medical Director. In 2018, he was named the winner of the "Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award" by the National Athletic Trainers Association. In 2020, his contributions were recognized with an induction into the New York State Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame, cementing his place among the best in the field. A proud graduate of the University of Louisville, Steve attributes much of his success to the foundation built at Cardinal Spellman High School, where he spent four memorable years.
